We all need a relaxing drink in the evenings to beat the stressors of the day. I do not consider alcohol a healthy or sustainable way of fighting stress. Excess alcohol consumption can affect in various ways while increasing our risk for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, liver disease, stroke, etc. I often see humor around indulging in alcohol for day to day stresses that normalizes drinking to an unhealthy limit. As a primary care physician who focuses on preventative and lifestyle medicine, this worries me!
Hence, I feel compelled to share this healthy non-alcoholic drink, that has the potential to help you relax at the end of the day, soothe your senses and provide you with the much-needed relaxation. It may even curb your dessert cravings!
Oatmilk: 2 cups
Fresh Ginger- 1-2 inches of ginger(Crushed in a pestle and mortal enhances the taste better, rather than just cutting it into small pieces)
Fresh turmeric: 1 piece of crushed fresh turmeric root or 1/2 to 1 tsp of fresh turmeric powder
Cinnamon powder: 1/2 tsp
Green cardamom: 4 pieces crushed up in the pestle
Honey: to taste
Bring the oat milk to boil in a saucepan
Once the milk has boiled, put all the above ingredients and simmer in medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes
Once done, take 15 minutes to relax and enjoy your non-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich latte.
